From the end of 2024, USB-C will become the universal charging connector for many electronic devices. A recent EU directive mandates a uniform standard for charging device batteries to reduce e-waste and increase consumer convenience. Thanks to the introduction of USB-C, various devices can be charged with a USB-C cable.

USB-C charging sockets only require a corresponding USB cable and no longer a charger. A USB-C port will be mandatory for the following rechargeable devices from the end of 2024: Smartphones, tablets, digital cameras, e-book readers, portable game consoles, headphones and headsets (charging case), portable speakers, portable navigation systems, keyboards and computer mice, and, starting in 2026, also laptops.
