Increase in devices with EU plug in the Swiss market

The Swiss Federal Inspectorate for Heavy Current Installations (ESTI), the responsible supervisory authority, has noticed an increase in devices with prohibited EU plugs in recent years. Peter Fluri, head of ESTI, explains: "This has certainly doubled in the last ten years."

ESTI attributes this development to two main reasons. Firstly, global online trade is a contributing factor. As a result, more devices are entering Switzerland that were not manufactured specifically for the local market. Secondly, many traders are not even aware that devices with EU plugs may not be sold in Switzerland.
